We warmly invite all interested TalTech academic staff and AI enthusiasts to our final open seminar of the academic year, happening on Tuesday, June 3rd from 15:00-17:00, in room SOC-212. This seminar will begin with a brief overview of the AI landscape at TalTech over the past year, highlighting key projects, achievements, and plans for the future. The introduction will be delivered by Prof. Sven Nõmm, Head of TalTech AI.
Following this, Prof. Nõmm will give a talk on his research on how AI supports diagnostics of cognitive and neurodegenerative disorders. For over a century, human motion analysis has been a valuable tool in psychology, psychiatry, and neurology. Today, thanks to rapid advances in AI and motion capture technologies such as pose estimation and digital tablets, we are able to extract motion parameters previously invisible to the human eye. While these new methods show promising results in supporting the diagnosis of disorders like Parkinson’s disease and multiple sclerosis, significant challenges remain before they can be widely adopted in clinical practice. Prof. Nõmm’s talk will explore how the fusion of AI and motion analysis is sparking a new wave of research in neurology and cognitive science focused on the semantics of behavior, learning, and cognition.
After the presentation, we invite you to stay for an open discussion and networking session. This will be a great opportunity to share your thoughts on how TalTech AI can best support AI research, education, and implementation in the years ahead. To celebrate a successful year of AI at TalTech, coffee and snacks will be served. Whether you’re looking to learn, share your ideas, or simply connect with fellow AI enthusiasts, we hope you’ll join us!
The talk part of the seminar will also be broadcast via Teams, but we encourage you to participate in person to take part of the interesting and valuable discussions in person. The talk will be held in English.
