Tallinn University of Technology invites all university staff to submit ideas for using artificial intelligence (AI) in teaching, research, or university processes.

If you have an idea for how AI could simplify your work, improve quality, or save time, this is your opportunity to turn that idea into reality.

The goal of the call is to support pilot projects that test AI solutions in a real working environment. This is not just an idea collection exercise, but a chance to implement your idea.

Both early-stage ideas and more developed project proposals are welcome.

The program aims to accelerate the adoption of AI at TalTech through practical pilot  projects.

Projects are expected to:

  • address a specific problem
  • create measurable value
  • be piloted within a short timeframe
  • have potential for scaling within the university

Preference is given to projects that can create value across the university, rather than being limited to a single course, unit, or narrowly defined use case.

Funding

The total budget for the call is up to €25,000.

Multiple pilot projects will be funded. The number of projects and individual funding amounts depend on the quality and needs of submitted ideas.

Funding is intended to cover project implementation costs (e.g., development, tools, student involvement, testing).

Indicative funding per project: €3,000–€10,000. Smaller projects may also be funded.

Expected Projects

Practical and feasible pilot projects are expected.

Examples include:

  • AI applications in teaching
  • automation of work processes
  • AI-based data analysis
  • solutions for support services

Eligibility

Applications may be submitted by TalTech lecturers, researchers, and staff.

Projects can be submitted individually or as a team. A team is not required.

If submitted individually, the feasibility of implementation and the ability to involve necessary support will be assessed separately

Application Content

The application should provide a clear overview of the idea but does not need to be a fully developed project.

It should describe:

  • the problem being addressed
  • the proposed AI solution
  • where and how the solution will be used
  • the value the project creates
  • how the project will be implemented (timeline, team if available)
  • the requested funding amount
  • the planned budget use and resource needs

If all details are not finalized, an initial description is sufficient.

Evaluation Criteria

Applications will be evaluated based on:

  • impact and value for the university
  • scalability and potential for wider use at TalTech
  • feasibility and realistic timeline
  • availability or accessibility of required expertise

Special attention will be given to projects with potential for use across multiple units or at the university-wide level.

Applications will be evaluated by the AI Council. Decisions will be made holistically, considering both impact and diversity of projects.

Obligations of Selected Projects

Selected projects are expected to implement the pilot, present results, and share their experience with the university community.

Timeline

Application period: March 31 – April 14
Evaluation: April 14–20
Results: end of April
Project start: Spring–Autumn 2026 (pilot implementation as needed; latest start September 2026)
